overview
This poster series is based around a type designer and his/her typeface design of our choosing. After researching the typographer's background and supplemental information about the font, we then created various studies which explored poster hierarchy and helped to design the final triptych.
solution
For my project, I chose the font didot which was remastered by Adrian Frutiger. I loved it’s sophistication and the fact that it reminded me of fashion magazines, which I love. After research, sketches, and various rounds of explorations, I came to a design which I feel highlights the beauty and delicacy of didot. Though the font is typically used in the fashion and beauty world, I chose the colors black and orange to show the darker side of the font and further highlight it’s various uses. Plus, the orange really pops against the black!
fine details
Sketches were a key part of the beginning stage of this project. We explored various “type specimen studies” to learn more about the nuances and possibilities of our chosen font. Each specimen study (type as an image, an alphabet showcase, and designing a quote) lead up to the final triptych series. As one of my first times dealing with deconstructing type, this project introduced me to the beauty of typography and how important it is in overall design decisions.
